5 Family-Friendly Activities in Arvada

Arvada is a town steeped in Colorado history, including being the first place to discover the critical component of the Gold Rush in the West. Not only is there plenty of history involving the development of the Colorado Central Railroad, but Arvada was once the “Celery Capital of the World.” Incorporated in 1904 with a mere 100 residents, the town now has over 120,000 residents and is packed with fun things to see and do. With plenty of world-class restaurants and shopping, miles of gorgeous trails and open spaces that are signature to Colorado, and a unique vibe to this town, you’ll love exploring the seventh largest city in the state, and Arvada’s real estate boasts gorgeous homes.
This small town has a hip vibe that appeals to young professionals and families, and with multiple community events and seasonal festivals, it’s easy to see why. To give you a small taste of what Arvada offers, The Phipps Team has put together a list of five family-friendly activities in the area.

Arvada Center for the Arts

The Arvada Center for the Arts and Humanities is one of the largest multi-disciplinary venues in the nation that produces, creates, and curates national-caliber arts. Everything in the venue, from art and humanities to education and entertainment, is designed to help you use your senses a little bit deeper. Its mission and goal are to celebrate and inspire the human spirit by engaging it with art, humanities, entertainment, and education by expanding your cultural landscape.

The belief is that art and humanities are transcendent and can enrich every person they touch, inspiring them to become better versions of who they already are by enticing the sense and enhancing their state of mind. Because of this belief, you’ll find plenty of things that you can relate to or that resonate within you, whether a sculpture or a play. They feature outdoor concerts, plays, summer camp programs, and much more. This is a visit the whole family will enjoy.

Apex Center

The Apex Center is part of the Park and Recreation District and aims to give kids and families a place where everyone can have fun and stay healthy. They offer age-specific activities and plenty of family-oriented activities that allow everyone to join the fun. You’ll find plenty of crafts and computer classes and an abundance of sports options. Enjoy activities like art and music, dance, gymnastics, racquetball, pickleball, cheerleading, and ice hockey, or participate in one of the many youth programs.
Inside you’ll find:

  • Two NHL ice rinks
  • A natural rock climbing wall
  • Multiple gymnasiums
  • A free playground for the younger children
  • An expansive indoor water park featuring a body and tube slide, playground, vortex pool, lap pool, and family hot tubs

Majestic View Nature Center and Park

This nature center and park feature an assortment of hands-on displays, kid’s activities, classrooms, wildlife exhibits, and acreage to explore. The park offers more than 80 acres of interpretive trails, wetlands, wildlife species, and a lake to enjoy. Whether wandering the trails and discovering the local wildlife or taking an interactive class, this is a fun experience for everyone.
Visitors rave about the beautiful gardens, the visitor center, the knowledgeable rangers, grassy areas, and play areas. If you’re looking for a beautiful place to spend the day with the family enjoying the great outdoors, this is a top pick!

KidSpace, Inc.

This next choice is located nearby in Westminster but deserves a spot on the list because kids love it. This indoor playground is space-themed and features abundant hands-on learning experiences through various STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math) activities. In addition, they offer virtual reality games, a planetarium, a coffee shop, and private rooms for multiple parties or field trips.
KidSpace, Inc. opened in 2018 and sought to bring a unique and fulfilling experience to your typical indoor playground. They remain rooted in science so that children learn more about the basic principles of STEM through various forms of play. This one gears itself toward younger children but remains a learning experience for everyone.

Ralston-Central Park

This park features 20 acres of space with multiple walking paths, playgrounds, a volleyball pit, covered pavilions for picnics, plenty of seating through the Hernor Family Memorial Gardens, a large splash pad, and three pedestrian bridges. The Memorial Garden, restrooms, pavilions, and maintenance area are all unique to Arvada and feature customized design details you won’t find anywhere else. The pavilions are shared throughout the community and cannot be reserved but are available for use on a first-come, first-served basis. The park department asks you to limit your party times and ensure your party cleans up afterward.
The splash pad is fun for the children and operates most of the day. While pets are more than welcome in the park, they are not allowed on the splash pads.

Community events

In addition to the abundance of family-friendly places to explore in the area, the city of Arvada hosts plenty of seasonal events and festivals for everyone to enjoy. The Arvada Library has various events and reading times throughout the month for every age. With more than 150 miles of hiking, biking, and horseback trails, there is always an outdoor activity to be found. The city also hosts wine and beer tasting events, outdoor concerts, holiday events, festivals, and more, which you can find on their website.
